Taking “Plastic”
Sunday January 7, 2007
Are you thinking of implementing credit card transactions for your business this year? If so, you want to be sure you are getting the best rate for the most services possible! Some merchant accounts charge very high monthly lease fees that can take a large chunk out of your budget even when you have very few transactions. Make sure that you are not paying extra for features you do not need and watch those yearly contracts. You sure don't want to be locked into a five year contract only to find another company that offers the same services for half the cost of your current merchant solution!

I take credit card for my small craft business. I called many local banks and only 2 got back to me within the day. One I heard from 6 weeks later and the rest, at least 4, never called back. I guess they don’t want the small business. Lucky for me the two that called back were very competitive in rates. I took the one that I live closest too and I’ve had great success with their service. Many banks do not want you to have sliders - they want all transactions done electronicly at the time of sale. Hard to do when you are set up in the middle of a park or gym without electricity!
I am very interested in getting set up to take credit cards as I have been doing shows for 13+ years now and have seen a sharp increase in customers asking to use one. In past years there was maybe one a show but now we are getting up to a dozen. I am very confused with all the different types and rates out there, just what I should be lookung for. Maybe a forum on this topic would be helpful to many!! I know some of the offers give you a flat fee for all cards while others charge a different percentage depending on which card they use. Some shows I do there is no electricity so would a slider be best even though you run the risk of a bad card and not being able to check it right away? I think there are alot of us out here that could use some answers. Thanks!!
I have been taking credit cards with a “slider” for several years. While I don’t do a lot of credit card business, it is available. I call my credit charges in when I get to a telephone, usually after the show, and I have never had a bad charge.
I have had a merchant acct for a few years and am trying to decide if I should keep it..I am charged $13.00 a month wether I use it or not..plus the
transaction fee of around .23cents…
my use if very limited, usually about
3 months of the year…I know I have more sales because of taking the charges, but if the cost exceeds the profit..it’s foolish of me..I want to shop around before canceling this service..any good advice where to shop
Oh yes, I also have to pay $89. once a year…
