Craft Shows Versus Web Sites

Sunday February 4, 2007
Defining the difference in selling at shows and selling on the Web can help you develop a plan that will enhance both venues. For instance, at shows a lot of people like to pick up and look over the quality of all sides of a craft, you should provide several views of items so people can see the front, back and even the sides of the products in some cases. And as always, you need to make sure your photography is of the very best quality when showing items online. The only way to make sure the customer can see the quality in your work is by providing top-notch images!

Being a woodworker, I will add one more sensory item to the advantage at crafts shows and that is touch.

When a prospective customer picks up one of my pieces, the feel of the wood is very important. They also get to see some of the finer detail of the scrollsawn piece. It is impossible to use that sensory on my web site.

In most of my pictures, I might have a couple of views, but also have to take close up pix of the finer areas. In many cases, an extra web page is made just for that purpose.

As usual, the above is just my humble opinion.
