Booth Layout At Outdoor Show
Sunday February 11, 2007
What if you could offer suggestions to a promoter on how to place booths at an outdoor event? Well, you can in this forum thread started this week. What is the best possible layout for booths outdoors? To me that could depend on a whole lot of factors. Like, is this a flat, square area? Or are their hills and trees all around. Outdoor layouts can range from a simple line of booths to elaborate "trails" of displays running all though a park or "woodsy" area. The big thing is to make sure the crowds have a good view of all the crafters in attendance. Make sure that some people are not hidden from the rest of the show!

As a promoter I encourage suggestions. I like to collect ideas and compare how they coul;d work with our environment. Unfortunately our area is long and narrow, limiting the booth layout. But with suggestions form our artisans we have increased our booth numbers from 114 to 144. Thanks to all who helped.
Short rows are good because you get more corner booths that way. Corner booths are nice because two sides are accessible to buyers.
Most important is that there are no “dead ends”. It is best if traffic must flow past all booths. Also, don’t
crowd booths…if you have 10×10 spaces,
please allow another foot between spaces. The booths will still be very
close but not on top of the other.
Most everyone likes corners, therefore a quad setup is great. Thanks for listening.
I was involved with a show for over 20 yrs. that was 1 block from the ocean. It was a “park” (big open field) and we adjusted our layout whenever the town made “improvements”. Parking on the streets is almost impossible so we gave our crafters a 20 x 20 foot space. They had enough room to park & set up. Unfortunately we have had to end the show due to lack of help. we had people who were with us for over 10 yrs. or more!
