Impressing Jurors

Sunday June 3, 2007
If you want to attend good shows, you must impress the people who decide who gets to attend. So what's the best way to get jurors to let you in? Well, a picture is not only worth a thousand words, in the craft show business it can be worth thousands of dollars! If you cannot take high quality pictures of your crafts, hire a professional for the job! It is well worth the added expense to assure you are putting your best foot forward for the jury. Remember, that your pictures or slides are the only impression people will have of your work before you attend a show. So make sure you have the best pictures of your best products to send with your application for juried events.

Pictures DO get you into shows. As the Director of a Festival, I’m constantly amazed at the poor quality of pictures we receive. There should NEVER be more than two pieces of work in a picture, and I prefer only one. Exception: picture of your booth. This is what my jury sees, and if the picture is not good enought to see the quality, out goes the app. And copies of poor quality pictures run on plain paper on your copier is not good, either. If you care enough, get good pictures on good quality paper.
