Multiple Shows Per Weekend

Sunday January 27, 2008
Lots of shows have a rule that requires the original crafter or artist to attend the event. Is that general rule fair or could it prevent some crafters form attending more than one show on a given weekend? We have had several shows that we split up on several occasions, attending 2 and even 3 events on the same weekend. The reason? There were simply too many great events that we needed to attend to keep the business thriving. When promoters ask that the creator of the product attend the show, it is to prevent buying and selling of crafts, which is a good thing. However, the rule can severely limit your ability to grow by doing more than one show at a time.

However, a crafts person’s excellence is valued by the show’s organizers, so having the attendance mandate ensures that the artisan’s work is not also being sold at a competing location at the same time.

Frequently potential buyers will have questions that are best answered by the actual artisan. I have seen buyers walk away when they could not speak to the Artisan.
