Liability Insurance

Sunday February 10, 2008
Many crafters will not need this type of insurance since promoters would be liable for most accidents that would happen at a show. However, if you have people come into your home of if you have your own retail shop, you will want to consider purchasing liability insurance. The rates are usually pretty affordable. Make sure you have enough coverage to make the premiums worthwhile. I recommend starting out with 1 million dollars for starters. You also may want to talk to promoters at shows where you might have a walk-in booth design. Ask them about their liability coverage and if you need this insurance as an exhibitor.

More a question than a comment. My daughters and I have started a kitchen craft soap and candle business on a very limited amount of money however, we have been able to wholesale a substantial number of each of our products to shops that resell our crafts. Cant’ seem to find a good answer to whether we need some sort of liability insurance. I as the elder am concerned about product safety. Our gross profit this year will most likely be nil. Some say we must have and others say (including an insurance co). say it would be a waster of what little we are going to make. The stores we have sold to or placed our products are covered by liability insurance. Help!
