Top Craft Site Mistakes
Sunday March 2, 2008
The most common mistakes people make when starting a website are not having enough marketing and not providing enough
information on the site. Remember that with a website you are not limited to how many products you can put online. You might
as well provide plenty of information for prospective customers such as information about you, the artist/crafter, contact
information, show schedules and of course and online shopping center.

To add to this… I prefer, when checking out websites to not just have a name (business name, etc.) and go right into these are my crafts, they are for sale, etc. Do something different - try focusing on a style or theme and have that flow effortlessly between your work and your website. Tell me why I should continue to look on throughout the site - why your site or works are different from other sites or works… Share pieces of useful information - proper care of your work, how to best repair something if it gets damaged or broken, where the materials come from and info about that location (maybe include a photo of the location), word of the day or one piece of art special each month, etc. A lot of times if someone is able to learn something new from your website - whether it is useful or useless knowledge - it creates a trigger where some will want to return to the site. This helps me and could help others too.
