Henri Bendel Opens Robert Lee Morris Shop

I received an email last week from Henri Bendel's about the fact that their 5th Avenue location is opening a 200 square foot store-in-store selling Robert Lee Morris jewelry, including some of the pieces shown with Donna Karan's Fall 2009 Collection. It brought to mind how much I enjoyed his fantastic book, Robert Lee Morris: The Power of Jewelry.

The book reads like a personal diary detailing the triumphs and defeats this designer faced while building his business. At one point early in his career, the designer proudly showed some work to a gallery owner and was told that perhaps he should pursue another career - such as driving a truck or the law.

Extremely interesting to read, it also has stellar illustrations. While it was published in 2004, the information in it regarding building a jewelry business is just as applicable today as it was five years ago.
