Now's the time to consider factoring in the time and expense of attending the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washintong DC. One of the most prestigious craft shows in the U.S., it is being held on April 25 -28 at the National Building Museum.
Just my preference, but I always fly into Norfolk rather than DC. The airport is small, easy to negotiate, usually very traveler friendly, has no scanners and the rental cars are right at the terminal. It's a three hour drive to Fredericksburg, VA (along the way you'll go past Williamsburg which is an interesting stop and an amusement park) which has a bunch of great hotels right by the Culpepper highway exit #130. I've never had less than a stellar visit at the Homewood Suites located at that exit.
Then it's only a 45 - 60 minute drive to DC. If you want to stay in Georgetown, while some of the rooms in the remodeling queue are getting a bit rough around the edges, the least expensive suite hotel in Georgetown is the Hotel Monticello. I've stayed there many times over the years and have always been happy.
Please note: I don't receive any compensation from either of the hotels mentioned above.
