Craftsperson Ethics

Thursday June 3, 2004
"I think I need a general explanation of craftsperson ethics. I take my work seriously and want to be as professional as possible. I certainly wouldn't want to do something offensive/harmful to other crafters in ignorance. So, any ethics advice specifically for the craft business?"

Maybe the ethics should be about thinking. your work has to have a meaning to you, then it can have a meaning for others, too. The thinking-process behind the work should be longer than the actual process of making a piece. Sometimes it’s good to not have time to realize all your ideas right away, if you have had that one idea for a long time, you’ll understand, if it’s important or not. You should always have something to say with your work, even if you’re designing coffee-cups or something. it-s also important to respect your material, wich means that if you idea is good the final piece also has to be made very correctly.
