Hot Weather Hurts Attendance

Sunday August 6, 2006
From the east to the west, the heat wave is definitely taking its toll on crafters. Customers are deciding to stay indoors instead of attending what once were great outings. Should crafters forego good shows that are held outdoors during the hottest days of summer? Well, that all depends on your expenses. If your events do not require traveling very far (and incurring high fuels costs along with low attendance) outdoor shows may still be feasible this time of the year.

I went to a show craft show here in Nashville TN. a couple of weekends ago and it had hardly any attendane. The place was bare. Not that many venders either.
The weather could have been a factor but it was held indoors at the fairgrounds.
It was not advertised at all that I could see. When we arrived to the show the main entrace was closed. We almost left when we saw another intrance. There was one small sign on the door saying it was a craft show. We almost didn’t go in.
I was glad we did because there was some very nice crafts there. But on the other hand I saw lots of imports. Lets face it. How can these vendors be expected to attend all these shows and still have time to produce the items they sell.
I think with all the imports )and some can fool the eye of a non crafter) lots of people just shop the internet and save gas and time.
Who wants to go to a craft show and have to wade through all the imports and every booth is selling the same thing.
My thoughts
