The Gallery Dilemma
Sunday November 18, 2007
If you sell fine art to galleries, you may sometimes run into this dilemma. Some gallery owners may want you to sign a non-compete agreement where you promise to give them exclusive rights to your work. What happens when you have several agreements like this and you want to create a Web site to sell your work? Certainly, if galleries make up the biggest part of your sales, you may want to reconsider taking on any venture that may jeopardize your relationship with your biggest buyers. However a Web site can be developed in a way that does not offer direct selling, but simply points buyers to your galleries.
