I've done this event several times. People are mostly interested in bargain shopping and antiques, which there is a separate section for. This is NOT a good venue for crafters and it is VERY hot in the summer months. If you sell antiques, garage sale items or bargain stuff, this is a venue for you.

AVOID all Fresh Air shows in Big Bear, or any shows run by Michael Oldham. This was absolutely the WORST show I've been in, and Michael misrepresented it from the start. He lists the show as having 60 vendors and 10,000 people, but in reality it was 23 vendors (down to about 6 by Monday), and 500 people. On top of that, he is abusive to customers and vendors, and is inflexible and horrible to work with. Not to mention he plays the worst selection of music I've ever heard - at a festival, or anywhere. Three vendors left by Saturday night, with over a dozen leaving by Sunday night. Incredibly bad, a waste of money to participate in, and there are many far better choices to make that weekend. There are a number of vendors at this event who will warn everyone to avoid this show. It was revealing to learn that only 4 of the 23 original vendors were returning, with one of those getting his space free, and one used their space to promote their booth at the festival down the road. AVOID THIS FESTIVAL!

Redlands has a wonderful festival atmosphere, with music, food, and a lot of entertainment going on. The crowd is mostly very young, and has little money to spend. I heartily recommend this festival - if you are selling items that appeal to the college/high school crowd that cost under $10, preferably under $5. This is NOT a good show for high end products. The Redlands staff is helpful and fun to work with, and the only real problem is an often very short setup period, and a lack of visible security in some areas of the festival after it's over.

VillageFest is run by a board of artist wannabes who have their noses stuck so far in the air the FAA has to keep a close eye on when they exhale. The fact that VillageFest has a horrid selection to offer - and excludes quality vendors - is all due to the arrogant despots of the VF board. They are not only snotty, but are incredibly mean to applicants. Applicants are so abused and misled (the board does NOT follow its own rules), they sometimes stop payment on their checks. The city of Palm Springs should really get rid of these people - they could have a quality show if someone decent was running it.
