How to Find Inexpensive Craft Supplies

Finding craft supplies and suppliers can be difficult. Here are some tips to help you find the best deals.

Difficulty Level: average      Time Required: 5 minutes to several months

Here's How:
  1. Ask craftspeople for their best supply sources.
  2. Apply for a Tax ID number to qualify for tax discounts with certain suppliers.
  3. Search discount stores to comparison shop.
  4. Search the Web for new suppliers.
  5. Ask each supplier you find for discounts with bulk purchases.
  6. Ask all suppliers for tax discount with tax ID number.
  7. Search through craft publications for going-out-of-business sales from craftspeople.
  8. Post messages to craft-related bulletin boards with your supply needs.
Tips:
  1. Not all craftspeople are willing to share supply sources. Don't take it personally if someone will not share information with you.
  2. Most discount stores will allow you to use your tax ID number to avoid sales tax on resold items. Ask for this information at the service desk.
