What do you do when you have a great show that you attend year after year, but want to try another (possibly great, too) event at the same time? Simple, attend both events! However, attending simultaneous craft shows requires many more things. Here are some ideas to help get you started.
Expenses
Attending multiple shows requires more booth fees, gas, lodging, display materials, inventory, which means more money. Pre-calculate estimated expenses before making the decision to attend coinciding shows. Remember that two shows may not necessarily mean twice the expense. Booth fees, travel and lodging expenses may all vary.
People
Note: Some shows require the artist/craftperson to be in attendance. Check with show promoters for rules before deciding on attending more than one event! My thanks to "Judi", a member of our online community for reminding me to add this important point!
Be sure to send enough helpers to set up, maintain and break down your display. Many times a friend or family member would love to help out just for a free "mini vacation". It doesn't hurt to pay helpers a small fee to help them remember they are at the show to work more than shop! ;-)
Inventory
Empty displays don't sell crafts! Remember, well in advance, that you will need a full inventory for each event you attend. Needless to say this will increase the amount of supplies you need, so be sure to take added costs into account.
Planning
Well in advance of your shows, show applications will need to be filed, booth fees paid, hotel reservations made, routes planned and inventory will need to be created! Make yourself a checklist for each event, detailing what will need to be accomplished and when it will need to be finished. Pre-planning for simultaneous shows is a must to ensure less-stressful and more productive ventures!
