Welcome to the Arts and Crafts Business Site!

Dateline: 03/30/97

Hi! Welcome to the Arts and Crafts Business site brought to you by The Mining Company. My name is William Lasley and I'll be your guide for this site. If you've heard about this site from me at a trade show, thanks for dropping by! Send me an email to let me know what you think and I'll buy you a Coke when next we meet again! :-)

First, a little about what I will be doing here:

My job is to find all of the useful links to Arts and Crafts Business sites on the Web. Basically, I get paid to surf the Web! Cool. huh? However, this isn't as easy as it sounds. I must examine each Arts and Crafts site I find, looking for information that I think might be useful to you. And let me tell you, there are a lot of Arts and Crafts sites out there! If you haven't already, run a quick search for "arts and crafts" on Yahoo and see how many results you pull up! It can be an overwhelming job trying to find just what your looking for. That's why I'm here! I'll be continually searching to find sites that I think will be helpful to you.

Weekly Feature:

I'll also be writing a small weekly feature relating to our business. This could be anything from occasional show reviews to advice on how to keep up in an ever-changing marketplace. Please remember that I am only offering opinions and I am not about to tell you veterans that I know more than you about the craft industry! I believe that if we are to grow as an industry, we must exchange ideas. That is what this Web site is for.

Many of my features will be programs to help online craftspeople such as our Craft Supply Search Network.

Another type of feature might be a free drawing, like our Win a Subscription to Sunshine Artist Magazine.

And we will also be hearing what craft industry leaders have to say, as in Analysis of 1997.

But mostly, I will be pointing out all of the great information the internet has to offer the arts and crafts industry!

How to make this site more useful to you:

I work very hard trying to find Web sites that I think could be useful to anyone in the Arts and Crafts industry, but it is an endless job that takes time. Therefore, if there is a site that you think should be included here, then send me an email with the URL and a description of the site. If its relevant to our business then I'll add it to our resource list!
Soon, I will have "spidering" software that will constantly check for broken links. Until then, I'll be doing it manually. If you find a link that isn't working on this site, please let me know so that I can update or remove it.
Let me know of any good or bad experiences you've had in the Arts and Crafts industry and I'll include them in future features!
Please email any information that you would like to see included in this site that would help you with your business.

Some Final Notes:

Remember, this site exists solely for you! I believe that together, we can make it a strong tool for promoting Arts and Crafts businesses -- retail and wholesale, large and small alike. But we must work together! I've been in this business a long time. However, I am still learning new things every day. We can now share ideas and help each other, whether it be talking about a great show or a new way to save money. By sharing, we can all grow here!

That's all for now. Thanks for stopping by. Please come back next week when I'll have suggestions on everyone's responsibilities for making a show successful!
