A question I am asked often is "How do I find great craft shows?" While nothing can guarantee a great show, there are some things to take into account that will increase the likelihood of your finding and having a good craft show.

  • Identify your Market - Apply for shows that fit in with your product. Different products sell better at different types of events. If you have high-end artwork, don't try to sell it at your local church bazaar or flea market. You will most likely sell more products at a quality, juried art event. If you sell handmade Christmas ornaments, don't market them at a festival in July.
  • Ask Other Crafters - What shows do your fellow craftspeople attend? Some of the greatest shows you will find will likely be those which a colleague told you about.
  • Use Online Directories - The Internet has a wealth of information regarding craft shows, events, fairs and festivals. Take advantage of the many online resources to find different markets for your products.
  • Use Magazines and Publications - There are many printed publications that are very helpful in rating and reviewing craft-related events. A subscription or two is always a good tool to have when searching for craft shows.
  • Be Prepared - Make sure you have plenty of inventory on hand. You can't sell what you don't have and empty shelves will almost always deter buying customers.
  • Use Marketing Strategies - When you are at a show, use important marketing techniques like telling the story behind your craft. Customers who you interact with will be more likely to buy your products.
