Crafting for Dollars: Turn Your Hobby into Serious Cash
Publisher: Prima Publishing
Crafting for Dollars is a how-to book about starting a craft business. At a hefty 293 pages, this reading took a little time. But don't think that this book is a tedious read--it is packed full of valuable advice that I wish I had when starting our business. Hobbyists thinking of starting a craft business, beginners who are still learning the ropes, and seasoned professionals will all find great value here. Hobbyists: if you are thinking of starting your own craft-related business, this book will help you make the decision to go for it, or maybe to wait a while. The very first chapter "You As Analyst," outlines critical preliminary questions that should be answered before deciding to go forward with any business venture. If you decide that the craft industry is right for you, read on. This book will surely provide you with a much-needed compass to navigate the world of owning and operating your own business. Beginners: for folks who have already taken the plunge into the world of Crafting for Dollars, this book will provide you with valuable advice. While talking to others has always proved helpful to beginners in any field, by reading this book, you will already know the answers to questions that could take years of discussion to answer. Do your colleagues (and yourself) a favor by educating yourself on the basics, and save the BIG questions for later. Professionals: the professional crafter will be pleasantly surprised to find so much information in this book. Unexpectedly, I have learned quite a bit. In a fast-paced industry, it never hurts to have someone else help you outline your goals to help you keep grounded. Personally, I found the chapters "You as Consultant," and "You as Advertising Agent" very enlightening. Even if you have been involved in the craft industry for years, this book should offer information that will help you improve your knowledge of professional crafting. In Crafting for Dollars, Ms. Landman has certainly proved that she knows her business. If you are involved any aspect of professional crafting, get a copy of this book. You'll be glad you did!
