Storing Your Arts and Crafts Supplies

By , About.com Guide

Looking for a way to store your arts and crafts supplies? Check out these plastic storage suggestions. Ranging in size from 40 gallons to desk-top organizers you'll find the perfect storage solutions for your arts or crafts business.

1. Rolling Clear Plastic Container

I love storage containers on casters and the fact that it's airtight makes this storage container one of my favorites for my arts and crafts business.  My work room has a cement floor so I can easily push and pull my supplies around as I need them. It also rolls on tiled or wood floors. However, it isn't as easy to push it around on carpeting.

Clear plastic, you can see see through it somewhat. I also label mine using peel and stick labels so I can rearrange my supplies into different containers as needed.

2. Clear Hopper Front Storage Containers

If you use a lot of the same raw material in your arts and crafts business, these hopper front containers will make organization a breeze. They are stackable and have a clear hopper window in the front that slides up or down for access to contents. You can also load it from the back and it has front and rear handles.

I keep similar tools in mine. For example, all my drill bits go in one; all my files go in another. One of my clients keeps small components in her bins and tapes one to the front for easy identification.

5. 40 Gallon Plastic Storage Tote

Extra-large for storing bulky items such as fabric, mats, canvas or sketch pads, it has a hinged lid and easy-grip, comfortable handles. Though it's not see-through, it can easily be labeled or you can use a marker to identify it's contents.

An added plus is that these containers can be sealed shut with packing tape and loaded onto a moving van should you relocate. I've moved the same plastic plastic storage totes a few times with no damage to the tote. Of course, you have to make sure the containers are either unbreakable or secured packed inside the tote.
