Using Wire to Sew Pieces of Metal Together
Using Cold Connections To Make Jewelry

Sterling silver and Akoya pearl pendant

Maire Loughran

The pendant on this page is another example of using cold connections. Cut or saw sterling silver sheet into rectangular shapes. Drill a small hole into the top and bottom of the upper rectangle and one hole into the top of the second. Insert pieces of sterling silver wire through the holes and glue the wire into half-drilled Akoya pearls to hold the pendant together.

Each of the three designs shown in this cold connection step-by-step guide are beginner level. However, the skills you'll use such as wrapping wire or cutting metal are the foundations of more advanced jewelry making skills, including those you use when soldering.

So if you're thinking about starting a craft business making jewelry or adding jewelry to your existing craft base, these are good projects to use to get your feet wet.
