What Types of Arts or Crafts do you Handcraft?
I make upcycled handbags. They are made from mens suits, mens ties, sweaters, and blazers. I like to take something old and make it new again. That old piece of clothing tells me what it wants to be: a handbag, a computer bag, cellphone carrier, weekender or backpack. It is a challenage to see what handbag would make the best use of the old style and the best use of the fabric. I only use patterns that I created and designed. This way I have complete control of the fabric and the finished design.
Do you Sell Wholesale or Retail?
As of now I sell retail, at shows and home parties. The home parties are a lot fun, and I get to meet some new people. I do the handwork on my bags when I'm waiting at Dr's office or just waiting. This has led to home parties. It is also a good conversation starter. I've seen that as my name gets known there are more opportunities.
Lessons Learned
- The biggest lesson I've learned is not to bite off more then I can then I can chew. There are just so many hours in the day, and I don't need to fill everyone of them. The biggest shock was that " I " could take credit cards.
